Benefits - Open Enrollment & Time Away Changes
6/06/22
Good day, Intellis –
Every day we’re reminded that this business is all about talented people coming together to make extraordinary coffee an agent of change. That’s why it’s our goal to invest in extraordinary talent because when you feel good, you feel like you can do your best work and live your best life. One way we invest in our people is to offer different ways for you to experience well-being. These take the form of benefits, career development, and time-off policies. Earlier this year, we completed the exhaustive work of revising our holiday, parental and compassionate leave policies, so the changes could coincide with our benefits plan year of July 1, 2022. So, in addition to describing our plans for health, dental, vision, disability, and life insurance, I’m excited to announce updated leave policies.
Benefits Open Enrollment Period Begins Wednesday, June 8th!
Intelligentsia’s Open Enrollment begins on Wednesday, June 8th, and concludes on Friday, June 17th. We will continue offering a variety of medical and dental insurance plans through BlueCross BlueShield, vision insurance through EyeMed, short and long-term disability insurance, and complimentary life insurance for all benefits-eligible employees. There are no changes to any of our plans or any employee contributions this year. Additional details can be found in the accompanying pamphlet.
Please plan on completing the Benefits Open Enrollment process via ADP Workforce Now. If you do nothing, your current coverage will roll over, except for health savings accounts (HSA), which need to be re-elected or require an application each year. Intelligentsia has a wide variety of benefits – from healthcare to financial programs and more, but the value you get from these benefits depends on you. Please use the open enrollment period to take stock of your benefits and ensure you are on the right track for you and your family. If you need help, don’t hesitate to contact a member of the People & Culture Team to walk you through the process at pc@intelligentsia.com.
New Time Away Policies:
I’m excited to share a summary of the changes to our time-away programs to provide greater flexibility during life’s celebrations and critical times:
Bereavement Time Away - Intelligentsia will provide ten days, or the equivalent of two work weeks, of paid time away when there is a death in your immediate family. Additionally, three days of paid time away when there is a death in your extended family.
Parental Time Away – Intelligentsia will provide six weeks of paid (100% of base pay) parental leave for all parents welcoming a new child, either by birth, foster placement, or adoption. This is intended to supplement any benefit available under state or federal law. An additional six weeks of paid leave (100% of base pay) will be provided for birth parents recovering from a C-section or a medically supported disability.
Paid Holidays – Intelligentsia will now observe the following eight holidays for all employees (retail and non-retail): New Year’s Day, Martin Luther King Jr. Day**, Memorial Day, Juneteenth**, Independence Day, Labor Day, Thanksgiving Day, and Christmas Day. If you are an hourly employee and do not work on a holiday, you will receive 8 hours of paid time for the holiday. If you are an hourly employee who is scheduled to work on the holiday, you will be paid 1.5 times your base hourly rate for any hours you work, but you will not receive additional holiday pay. **New Intelligentsia observed holidays.
Juneteenth – Our benefits and time-away changes are effective July 1st. However, Intelligentsia will observe Juneteenth on June 19, 2022, for retail employees and June 20, 2022, for non-retail employees. If you are an hourly employee, you will be paid as described in the Paid Holidays paragraph above.
New Paid Holidays
The holidays we celebrate as an organization reflect what we value as a community and fosters a culture that acknowledges difference and equity. In furtherance of our work as an anti-racist organization, we determined that it is crucial to recognize, celebrate and honor two important National Holidays that exemplify the progress we’ve made as a nation in our fight for racial equity and justice. We are, therefore, recognizing both Juneteenth (June 19th) and Martin Luther King Jr. Day (January 16th) as paid holidays for all Intelligentsia employees, and we will no longer recognize the day after Thanksgiving (Black Friday) as a paid holiday. The addition of MLK Day and Juneteenth and the elimination of the day after Thanksgiving as holidays are a cornerstone and anchor for our shared values as an organization while reminding us to always consider how our past both reflects and informs our present. While none of these initiatives in and of themselves can erase our account for the centuries of inherited disparity and injustice which plague our modern world, we see them as essential steps in our pursuit of progress and positive change.
The formal policies associated with these enhanced time-away policies will be posted on ADP Workforce Now.
